I have gone through what seems like complete hell for this picture. OMGackt.
Well, I'll try to keep it short and sweet. Something I did to include in my college porfolio, as well as enter in Muse's Gackt fanart contest. My third realism, as well as my first dog! I'm kind of proud.
There are some proportional problems, but I like to think they are rather vague. Belle also ended out being a little light in the face. She's normally a mahogany brown, but all in black in white, she appeared light coloured. I decided to try a few new things with this, as well as doing the shirt in colour for contrast, and I'm quite happy with it.
By the way, Belle is a miniature long hair dashaund. That's why she looks so small. She really is that small (or close to it).
Comments, compliments, FAVOURITES! Well, if you want. But I can't say I wouldn't love ya for it. I sacrificed a lot for this piece, and it deserves some special treatment. Maybe?
The original of this is sold, however, prints are available. Note me if interested.
Elapsed Time: 26 and 1/2 hours
Size: 14"x17"
Materials: Ebony pencil, Prismacolor pencils, photo reference, Photoshop for touch-ups
FULL VIEW is a MUST!!
EDIT-- I went back and touched up the picture, so hopefully now you can't see ANY of the lines where the scans overlap. If you can . .well, I did the best I could. Just ignore them.
EDIT -- 12/11/07 -- I am sad to announce that the sweet pup in this picture, Belle Constantine Chappy, has passed away. She'd been Gackt's friend through thick and thin for many many years, and she will be missed!
Ooh! It's great! The dog's fine. ^_^ *shows picture to her little sister who shouldn't be in her room in the first place* Ah, she says the hair is good. ^^ I think my favorite part (besides the shirt) is the arm and hand. Dunno why...It's just cool looking. ^^ 26 1/2 hours?! Geeze...Well, it shows. Good luck on the contest!
Actually, it's sort of good and bad that you think the pants are jeans. They are actually red leather pants, but I had to do the pants fast, so they don't look so much like leather, but it's good that they look like jeans, because in my next drawing I have to do jeans. So it all works out.
Thanks for the fav!

Hey, 26 and a half hours is DAMN GOOD for a drawing of this detail!! Well, it's good for me anyway, I'm slow as crap. I just do what I caaaan~~ . .
Anyhoo, thanks! ^_^ And tell your sister thanks from me too! I like the hand as well, and I'm glad that you like it too! It is important to have good hands as far as my college portfolio goes. So this is good!

It's the texture. If they had more shine, they'd look like leather. Probably the way the pencil (is it pencil or charcoal?) shows up on the paper. Is it textured? It looks a bit like it.
^_^ Hey, you make great art, I appreciate it, you feel happy, and make more great art. And thus the wheel turns...
Teehee. It's Ebony, so it's sort of in between pencil and charcoal. You're right about the shine. It probably had a little more shine, but that back leg I did on total melt-down mode. @_@ I'm happy it turned out as good as it did!

This is amazing. My favourite part is the jeans, because the folds just look so real and natural. ^_^
Good job!
